2016-03-09

The University of Iowa and the University of Iowa Foundation announced 194,541 UI alumni and friends have contributed $1.7 billion to For Iowa. Forever More: The Campaign for the University of Iowa, reaching the campaign’s $1.7 billion goal. The eight-and-a-half-year fundraising campaign will continue through December 2016.

The ambitious campaign has engaged donors and friends from across the state and the world, placing the University of Iowa at the forefront of aspirational and successful public university campaigns. To date in the campaign, donors have created more than 550 new undergraduate and graduate scholarships, 64 new faculty chairs and professorships, and hundreds of funds that support vital research and academic programs. Donors also have contributed to the construction of a number of facilities, including a new UI Children’s Hospital; the Stew and LeNore Hansen Football Performance Center; and replacement facilities for Hancher Auditorium, Voxman Music Building and Visual Arts Building.

“I’d like to thank the UI alumni and friends who contributed so generously,” said UI President Bruce Harreld. “These donations will contribute greatly to the success of our students and caliber of our research. I’d also like to thank Sally and Ken Mason who supported this campaign not only financially but also by spending countless hours on the road sharing the university’s story.”

“The generous gifts made during this campaign reflect the loyalty and passion our donors have for the University of Iowa,” said Lynette Marshall, president and CEO of the UI Foundation. “This is an important milestone, and we are grateful to our volunteer leadership and all of the donors who have brought us to this historic moment. The campaign runs through December 2016, and we will continue to engage those who share our belief in the transformational power of public higher education and world-class academic medicine.”

Private funds generated by the campaign are critical to ensuring the UI’s role as one of the top public research universities in the nation—as well the state’s premier academic medical center—with a commitment to exceptional undergraduate and graduate programs, world-renowned arts programs and championship-caliber athletics.
