Gene. His best friend since the first day of high school, when they sat next to each other in Algebra 2 and their mutual hatred for the class bonded them. They did everything together. So, of course, that continued at college. Roommates. Poly-sci majors. Late-night debates about Reaganomics over a six-pack. But now, in a dingy basement at a sparsely attended Young Republicans meeting, his mind wandered to last weekend’s frat party. The girls, slim and giggly, their eyes roving and drinks sloshing.

Greek rush started next week. He was signing up. Gene or no Gene.
