Once Upon a Time…

Now hang on a minute. Before you think this is just another fairytale, how many fairytales have you read that have auto mechanics or evil toasters?

That’s what I thought.

So, as I was saying…

Once upon a time, in a forest close to town, there was a castle in the deepest part of the woods. In the castle lived a Princess named Love, who was the kindest and most beautiful princess in the country. She was also really clever and knew how to make the best cinnamon toast in all the land.

One day, Princess Love was up in her tower, making cinnamon toast, when something terrible happened. The smell of the toast had traveled through the air, attracting a giant, evil fire breathing… toaster.

Wait, what?!

That’s right. A TOASTER. You thought I was going to say Dragon, didn’t you? Nope it was a toaster! An evil toaster created by a mad scientist from another world, who accidentally sent it to our world through a portal.

Princess Love, making her toast, hears a “BOOM! BOOM!” coming from outside, and looking out through her window, sees the evil toaster and realizes she’s trapped.

Meanwhile, an auto mechanic from the town nearby, decided to go for a walk in the woods. His name was Greg. As Greg walked further into the woods, he got lost as the forest grew thicker.

Just when he though all hope was lost and he would never be found again, he smelled the delicious scent of cinnamon toast. Thinking that would surely lead to his rescue, he followed the scent all the way to the castle, where he saw Princess Love in danger. It was love at first sight. She was so beautiful and clearly could make the best cinnamon toast ever. He decided right then and there to save her.

His first attempt to defeat the evil toaster was to march right up to it and kick it as hard as he could. Which did not work and only left him with a hurt foot, but the loud noise attracted Princess Love’s attention. She looked out her window and giggled when she saw him trying his best to fight the toaster.

Not knowing the Princess was watching, his next attempt was to grab a large tree branch the size of a baseball bat and try to smash the toaster. Which only broke the tree branch in half because the toaster was made of steel.

At that point, Greg noticed that Princess Love was watching. Their eyes met. He was more determined than ever. She shouted, “Can you help me?!” He shouted back, “Don’t worry! I’ve got this! I’ll save you!”

He decided to fight like a Knight. Calling up to the Princess he asks her, “Do you happen to have a sword”? She replies with “I don’t think you want to use that” but he says “Don’t worry! I said I’ve got this. I’ll save you!” So rolling her eyes, she says “Okay!” and throws a sword down to him. He grabs the sword, climbs the toaster and stabs it right in the opening at the top!

“ZAP!” That didn’t work so well! What a shocker.

Finally the frustrated Princess can take it no longer and shouts “Just unplug the darn thing!!!”

After taking her advice, the evil toaster is defeated. He climbs the tower and is united with the Princess. He decides to ask her to marry him right then and there.

She thinks for a minute and says “Yes. But only if you promise to work TOGETHER to solve our problems from now on.”

And they lived happily ever after… Without a toaster of any kind, and only made cinnamon toast in the oven from then on.

See… I told you this wasn’t a fairytale. It’s a romantic story about an auto mechanic and a gigantic evil toaster, and a pretty smart Princess.

The moral of the story is that it’s okay to ask for help if you need it, don’t be too proud to take advice from others, and sometimes it’s better to work together to solve problems.

Oh… and never stick a metal object in a toaster!
